Well the long running Ben Cousins story took an interesting turn
today with the AFL Commission electing to de-register Cousins:
FORMER West Coast Eagles captain Ben Cousins was banned from playing AFL football in 2008 after a marathon hearing at AFL House on Monday. Cousins, with his manager Ricky Nixon and legal counsel David Grace QC, defended a charge of bringing the game into disrepute, but failed in his bid to play next season.
The AFL Commission told him that he needs to get his health right and make himself available and keep the AFL’s Doctors informed about his recovery and progress. The difficulty of the issue is obvious by the fact that the meeting ran 8+ hours.
Below is video report from NineMSN video including Ben Cousins statement at the ending of the hearing:
Cousins suspended for 12 months
November 19, 2007: Fallen AFL star Ben Cousins has been suspended from the game for 12 months after being found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute.
I will have more comments in the comming week on this issue. I wanted to do a podcast today but unfortunately illness has stopped that. For more Ben Cousins news, don’t forget to check out FIG - AFL News.
