Since when do we trust Jurno’s before Jeff.
Jeff Kennett has found himself in the middle of a dispute relating to comments he made on the Duty of Care of a country footy club. He was asked to mediate and issue between a club and a trainer that they sacked after it got out in public that the trainer was bi-sexual. Instead of me going through the issue again here, I have decided that the easiest way to get the story on here, is to share some email communication I had with Patrick Smith of The Australian.
Buddy getting no love from the umps?
Mark Stevens has written an interest piece in the Herald Sun paper today about the discrepency of Frees For and Frees Against for the Coleman Medal leading, Lance “Buddy” Franklin:
LANCE Franklin’s reputation as “Bad Boy Buddy” has hit new heights. The Hawthorn star, already the most penalised AFL player in the past four seasons, has endured a month from hell with the umpires. Franklin has conceded 16 free kicks and been awarded just two in his past four games.
No love lost between umps and Hawks star Buddy Franklin | Herald Sun
Sherman or Water - What is Tanking in the AFL?
We are just over half way through the year and that means the new favorite sport of the AFL footy media and its fans turns from the game on the ground to the talk of tanking! Everyone loves to talk about tanking but what is tanking? Read more
A letter to Neil Mitchell on Buddygate
Neil Mitchell wrote an article about the Hawks investigation of the Buddy gate incident. It brought up questions in my mind, and I had to ask the great man for some advice.

Subject: Not on my Watch! Buddy Funny!Hi Neil,
I was reading your article on the Herald Sun website and it made me remember how much I miss Tony Martin and his great show, Get This that was dropped from Melbourne Radio last year. “Not on my watch!”. Haha, commedy gold. But thats not why I wrote, as you might of guest.
I might be one of those idiot footy fans that doesn’t know left from right but this Buddy story you have helped to beat up just has a lot of stuff that doesn’t add up in my small primitive brain.
Now I might be dumb, def or sceptical, but do I sense that you purposely left out important information in order that it made the hawks investigation look silly? I mean you said:
- Did he speak with the nightclub concerned? No.
- Correct me if I am wrong, Ian said he tried and they haven’t returned his call
- Did he speak with the bouncer who evicted Franklin? No
- Well maybe he should have, but it is reported that the club owner has already said that the bouncer was wrong (a fact that no one has challenged)
- He took calls supporting Franklin from two women who claimed to have been there.
- Are you calling the Girls liars? I listened to your interview and you seem offended for Amber and Jade when you wrongly accused the club of calling them liars, oh but I forget myself, you are self appointed judge, jury and exercutioner! Sorry, as I say, I am dumb
- But did he speak to the Collingwood players present? No.
Fair point. But what do you expect to come out of that? You really think the Collingwood player would dobbed him in (if you are right something happened). But maybe you should have talked to him, because here is the thing. Why did Jade not want to name the player, thinking he could be in trouble? Why haven’t you used your amazing powers of investigation to draw out the truth on that front? And while we are at it, why isn’t the interview you did with the girls on your website?
- No, though he says now he will, if they call.
- As I heard it, he said he would have before. The only reason he said it now was you asked him now
And while we are talking about these girls, Jade and Amber, there is something that my tiny brain doesn’t understand about them. In your interview (if I remember rightly) they said all they where after was an apology and they weren’t after there 15mins of fame! Good for them but I still don’t understand. If an AFL player offended you and you were after an apology, apart from the fact that your worship would just name and shame them on your many media outlets, lets assume you couldn’t do that, would you:
a) email footy Classified to let them know that you would talk about the incident
b) Call the club and talk to them about it and try to get contact with the offender so he could appologise
c) talk to Niel Mitchell on the radio
d) talk to and pose for pictures for a news outlet
Now as I have continuely admitted, I have a small intellect (as shown by the fact that I have a footy fan, Hawks to be exact) but I would have called the club in question as that would be best to get my apology.
So if you could spare a second to stop saving the world by bashing up on 21 year old kids, I mean looking after them, sorry small brain, you know, could you explain to me this fact? I want to learn from your superior intellect!

PS. I know you love good media to run on your site. So I have attached a photo of Jade (seemingly selling her body for Rum) so that maybe you could but the interview with the girls up! Classy girl!
I hope he answers me, I need his high morals to help me make sense of this issue!
